Animal Sanctuary Gala
Illustration
For the Catherine Violet Hubbard
Animal Sanctuary’s 3rd Annual Gala the theme, “Kindness Comes Home”, was based on a Hubbard family tradition. Gathering fallen birch tree branches and then using them for decor throughout the house was one of Catherine’s favorite traditions.
DESIGN SYSTEM
Because the theme of the gala this year was based on this family tradition of gathering these birch tree branches, I really wanted to have a birch tree be an important component in the illustration. The birch tree acts as the central element that calls all of the animals together and is a place where they can call home. I wanted to illustrate an abundance of animals and show that although they may be different, they can still come together and show kindness to one another. Because the gala took place in the winter months I not only wanted to include common animals found in the forest, such as squirrels, a fox, birds, and a rabbit, but show penguins and a polar bear too.
